President’s Message, August 2007--Mary Clark

With our fall flyer arriving early, I hope all of you make plans to take the opportunity to come to the 2009 Milwaukee Conference Jump Start meeting on August 11 th. Our Local Conference Co-chairs, Brian Burnett and Chris Judah-Lauder will be in town along with Donna Staton to get us excited and answer any questions and concerns we may have about hosting this event. Lunch will be provided courtesy of GMOD. We will be meeting in Milwaukee at Mount Mary College on 92nd and Center in the Bergstrom Meeting Room.

Once again, we have an outstanding lineup of clinicians this year, starting on September 8 th with Milwaukee’s own Will Schmid. Next up on October 13th is Melissa Berke from Nebraska. Some of you may remember attending Melissa’s presentation at the AOSA National Conference in Omaha or at the WMEA conference in Madison last year. You won’t want to miss this session! Lisa Sullivan comes to us highly recommended from Indiana on February 9 th and we end the season with some “Mallet Madness” with Artie Almeida from Florida on March 15 th. Don’t forget about the Chapter Share on January 12 th. It’s fun and it’s free! Take a minute to say thank you to Sam Steiner for making arrangements for this fine lineup of clinicians.

GMOD will again be hosting a booth in the exhibit hall for the October WMEA conference in Madison. There will be a volunteer sign up sheet at the September workshop. Sign up to take a work shift at the booth and attend one WMEA conference workshop at no charge. This would be a great opportunity to meet our 2009 AOSA National Conference Co-chair, Chris Judah-Lauder, who will be presenting at the conference.

You may notice a slight new look to our newsletter as we post our Northern neighbors workshop schedule along with Greater Chicago and AWAKE’s workshops. We are trying to reach out to build a stronger relationship with our nearby music educators. Read it carefully and look for the guest pass along with other discounts and incentives. I can’t wait to see you in September. Bring a friend!
