2023-2024 Workshops

Playful Process

Celebrate a brand new school year with GMOD as we welcome Meg Tietz to Milwaukee! Meg will be joining us all the way from Minnesota to teach us how to explore ways to incorporate pitched and unpitched instruments, recorders, and creative movement into lessons. There will be information for Orff beginners and experts alike! We hope to see you there!

First Steps in Orff Schulwerk

Our virtual workshop has become an annual favorite for GMOD members. What's better than curling up on the couch with a cup of coffee on a cold January day and learning more about Orff? This year we are excited to have Betsy Greene present on incorporating Orff Schulwerk and First Steps in Music. For those unfamiliar, First Steps in Music, developed by Dr. John Feierabend, is a research-based, curricular framework using singing and movement skills to maximize music aptitude and musical independence for students typically in grades PreK-2. In this workshop, Betsy Greene will show us how to combine First Steps with Orff Schulwerk to give our little learners a well-rounded musical lesson.

This virtual workshop will be co-hosted by our friends from AWAKE - the Assoc. of Wisconsin-Area Kodaly Educators.

Teaching Orff: The Nature of Expertise

What does it mean to be an expert general music teacher? How can the Orff approach help? Dr. Jean Hersey will join us for the final workshop of the year, in which you will learn new, multimodal activities and simple tricks to improve your instruction, all while making music! Please bring a recorder and dress comfortably.
