2022-2023 Workshops
Engaging Learners Actively Through Music Listening
Let's kick off a new school year together with Dr. Brent Gault as we explore strategies that actively engage learners in music listening experiences. Attendees will participate in sample lessons using a wide variety of listening examples in which singing, moving, playing on instruments, reading, and creating are used as ways to connect with and learn from these musical selections. Please note, this workshop will run from 9 am until 1 pm. This is a change from previous years designed to give you some of your Saturday afternoon back! This workshop is cohosted with our friends from AWAKE- the Association of Wisconsin-Area Kodaly Educators, an affiliate chapter of the Organization of American Kodaly Educators (OAKE).

Start with a Story for Folk Songs and Beyond!
Join us again this winter as we virtually welcome Katie Wonderly (@MsWonderlyMakesMusic) to present TWO virtual workshops! She will be sharing her workshop "Start with a Story: Children's Literature in the Music Room" in which she shows us how picture books can serve many purposes in a classroom: mirrors to reflect students’ own experiences, windows to peek into the lives and experiences of others, and doors to enter new or imaginary worlds. In this session, Katie will be using children’s literature as a diving board, the jumping off point to melodic and rhythmic concepts, musicians, and other musical activities.
Katie will also be presenting her workshop "Folk Songs and Beyond" to help us take those folk songs one step further! In this session, Katie will be sharing some of her favorite folk songs for the elementary music room, paired with the games, activities, people, places, and more that she uses to introduce them to her students!

Folk Dance Fundamentals
Join us for our final in person workshop of the year as we welcome a former President back to our chapter! Dr. Morrow will be presenting strategies for teaching folk dancing to students of all ages. She'll show us how to adapt the movement lessons we use with our young students into folk dancing repertoire for all ages and grade levels! Dr. Morrow is also an expert in vocal health and hygiene, and will teach us strategies and techniques for keeping our music teacher voices healthy!
